PAUL INTERVIEWS WAR MACHINE!

It’s May 4, 2013, Saturday. The first Saturday of May. Hmmm…so what does that all mean? It means FREE Comic Book Day! I remember the days if you were caught reading a comic book, you were considered a ‘geek’. Those days are gone. How can you tell? Look at the line of people waiting to see Iron Man 3! Since Hollywood recognizes the potential of comic books being made into movies, it has now taken on a life of its own! Comic books have reached the general public audience, every celebrity in Hollywood wants to play a superhero. Nicholas Cage begged to play Superman and when he was turned down for that role, he took on the role of another superhero, one that he was more fitted for. That superhero was Ghostrider!

When my team Alaceo ‘Big Al’ Rosatano – Videographer and Lisa Steele – Interviewer showed up, we confronted a horde of people waiting to get into A1 Comics. A1 Comics is owned by former San Francisco 49er and former Seattle Seahawk football player Brian Peets. A1 Comics has two major stores, one in Sacramento and one in Roseville. A1 Comics dominates all of Northern California as the BEST comic book store. Customers have been known to travel great distances to get to A1 Comics. When you arrive, it’s worth it. To learn more about A1 Comics, please visit their home page here:

Lisa and I interviewed many of the customers, including two of my paranormal investigators Kara & Jon Koyasako. I even ran into a Facebook friend. It was also fun to run into Tony Stark, Supergirl, War Machine, 2 Storm Troopers and Black Widow. I almost forgot I was at a Free Comic Day event and thought I was at a comic book convention. The free comic books that were being given out were: The Red Ten, Mass Effect/Killjoys/R.I.P.D.; DC Nation; Damsels; Grimm; Marble Season; Hal Foster’s Prince Valiant; Overstreet Comic Book Marketplace; Buck Rogers of the 25th Century; Scratch; Judge Dredd Classics; Aphrodite IX; Stan Lee’s Chakra the Invincible; Samayan Reloaded; Avengers Assemble/Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.; The Tick; Everyone Presents: The Crogan Adventures/Mesmin; The Strangers; 2000 AD; Atomic Robo and Friends; Finding Gossamyr: Call of the Lorelarks/Stuff of Legend; Top Shelf Kids; Harbinger Wars; Kellerman/L’Amour; Shonen Jump Presents: Dragon Ball/Rurouni Kenshin; Pippi Longstocking; Endangered Weapon; Fubar; Molly Danger; NFL Rush Zone; Action Time Buddies; Steampunk Original Presents: The Steam Engines of Oz; Mouse Guard/Rust; Sonic the Hedgehog/Mega Man; Worlds of Aspen; Absolution: The Beginning; Bleeding Cool; Capstone Presents: Mr. Puzzle; The Walking Dead; Marvel Classified; The Smurfs; Spongebob; Ugly Doll Comics; Kaboom!; Superman Special Edition; Avatar; Star Wars; Captain Midnight; TMNT New Animate Adventures; Sesame Street; Strawberry Shortcake; Archie Digest; Bongo Free-for-All! Whew, that’s a lot of comics! The one’s I picked out to keep are: The Remainz – Here Comes the Rocking Dead; Infinity by Marvel; The Walking Dead – Image; Before Watchmen – Dr. Manhatten; Warbound – Marvel; John Woo’s 7 Brothers by Virgin Comics.

Yes, I walked out smiling with my free comic books in my hand! There is a myth that I will relate here. A myth that not too many people know about. An interdimensional being named Obolisk, the leader of the Gunliks proclaimed in 2002, when the very first Free Comic Day came about, that ANY and ALL characters from every free comic book will be able to travel freely through the Multiverse and interact with ANY and ALL characters from other free comics on the Friday night at midnight, before the first Saturday of May, which is Free Comic Book Day. That means yesterday, which was Friday at midnight Chakra the Invincible was hanging out with Prince Valiant and Molly Danger and all of the other characters of the free comics that will be given away on this Saturday. Now that you know this secret myth, I will let you know some of the history of Free Comic Book Day. This is an annual promotional effort of the North American comic book industry. Retailer Joe Field of Flying Colors Comics in Concord, California came up with this idea. This idea caught on and is coordinated by the industry's single largest distributor Diamond Comic Distributors. Free Comic Book Day also helps to promote major Hollywood films that deal with comic book property. Besides getting some cool free comics, you also can get some very cool comic book swag, like I got a couple of nice pin buttons promoting two independent comic books!

While at this event, I ran into: Costuming Group Avengers Initiative – http://avengershq.comwww.facebook.com/AvengersInitiative. Great bunch of people that love to dress up as their favorite superheroes!

I will always love my comic books, sometimes my paranormal investigating takes me away from this fun, but when I do get a breather, I usually go back and grab some independents to read. I love the creative force of comic book writers and artists out there. I once tried my hand in publishing a comic book and that comic book is called The Legendary Dark Silhouette, which can be found here:

And believe it or now, but Independent movie producer Howard Nash bought the rights to this one and only comic book I published and has future plans to produce a movie based on my character. I still have my fingers crossed!

If you missed out on this Free Comic Book Day, don’t miss out on next year’s event! It’s a blast! Happy Free Comic Book Day!!
